The existence of temptation in our life does not mean we have sinned. The existence of opposition around us does not mean we are in the wrong location.
Temptation resides on either side of the narrow path we walk, yet it has no power unless we leave the path to engage it. Just because we can see it in our peripheral vision does not mean it has diverted our course.
Opposition arises in front of us, yet it has no power unless we believe the narrow path has been compromised. Just because the horizon has become cloudy and the atmosphere noisy does not mean the narrow path is no longer safe passage.
The devil is at work around us, but that does not mean he has found a victory. His victory only comes when we believe that his work is more powerful than the finished work of Christ. Our greatest defence against the devil is to ignore him, to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus and keep walking the narrow path.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God
