This is Central Otago high country. A sparse open landscape of tussock, grass and stone; framed by stark mountain ranges veiled with mist.
There is a unique beauty found in this desolate, arid environment. The sparseness and space appears to enhance the aesthetic pleasure.
Often the absence of something can still be beautiful. Often repetition can contribute to beauty. Truly there is life to be found in arid places.
It is good to find the beauty in a spiritual desert. It is good to be drawn into an arid place; for spiritual deserts are places of preparation.
Out of His pleasure God sent His Son into the desert place. It was not a punishment but a privilege.
‘You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.’ At once the Spirit sent him out into the desert, and he was in the desert forty days, being tempted by Satan. Mark 1:11-13
