Because He Said So

Often in life we look for the reasons that we should or should not do something. We assess, forecast and draw conclusions, so that we can make the best decision possible.

But what if the Lord asks us to do something and we do not know the reason why? How do we move forward with such a request?

It is in embracing His word as a command that we need no other reason: Why are we doing this? ‘Because He said so’.

Sometimes He asks us to do something, and the reasons for obeying might actually be quite obvious. Sometimes He asks us to do something, and we think we know the reasons, but later on we discover the Lord used our obedience in an unexpected way. Sometimes He asks us to do something and we cannot understand why He wants us to do it, in fact we can only see the reasons not to.

How do we move forward with something when we can only see the reasons to disobey?

To uphold His word as a command places God in the supreme position of authority over our life. We relinquish the right to disagree with Him, we submit to His wide reaching vision and surrender to His wisdom that far outstrips our ability to assess.

We say, ‘Yes Lord, because you say so’.

“Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” Luke 5:5

    • Hi Russell,

I am glad the post has got you thinking and thanks for sharing your thoughts. The risks you have highlighted are very valid. This blog intentionally does not develop all issues around a topic, and exists rather to prompt thought on faith and ministry.

      Blessings
